It’s Okay to Struggle—Motherhood Isn’t Meant to Be Done Alone
Hi, I’m Michelle Bacso, a psychotherapist at Anchor and a mother of two. I focus on women’s mental health, especially through pregnancy, postpartum, and early motherhood. I’ve been where you are—therapy before and after having my babies was life-changing.
Motherhood is magical, but it can also be overwhelming. Many mothers silently struggle, feeling lost, dismissed, or alone. It’s my mission to make sure no mother feels isolated, no matter how hard things get.
This transition into motherhood—known as matrescence—is profound, affecting your body, mind, and emotions in ways similar to adolescence but often overlooked. When you combine the weight of caring for a child with sleepless nights, hormonal shifts, and unmet needs, it’s easy to feel trapped in stress, guilt, and shame, wondering if you’re "enough."
You might feel conflicted:
Needing help but finding the help frustrating
Missing intimacy but not wanting to be touched
Longing for your pre-baby self but feeling guilty for it
Dreading going back to work but craving independence
Battling fears, scary thoughts, or marital tension
If this resonates, know that you’re not alone—and it doesn’t have to be this way.
Therapy offers a space where you can bring everything—your fears, frustrations, hopes, and truths—to someone who gets it and provides tools to help. Beyond talking, we’ll build skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, communication, and coping strategies to help you reconnect with yourself, your partner, and your child.
This journey isn’t just about the baby—it’s about you too. When you care for yourself, you model resilience for your children. The best gift you can give your family is a healthy, supported version of you.
